This is a great story. Salute to this good man 🫡

My father was in the hospital for a flare of his congestive heart failure. He was put on a BiPAP machine by the ER nurses. A few hours later, his breathing was suddenly much worse. Nurses tried everything they could think of to help him, but nothing worked. A respiratory therapist came to see how he was and quickly discovered that the BiPAP machine was defective. Got my dad on a different machine and immediately his breathing improved. I will always be grateful for that RT for helping my dad.

Long overdue, RT should be able to practice in all States. To be honest, the field is extremely restrictive to only hospitals, that is why most RT switch to other medical fields. They need more flexible options to increase interest for the RT brand recognition. RTs need to expand beyond only hospitals!!!, they should be in mostly clinics, PFT/Sleep labs, remote telemedicine, outpatient facilities even pulmonary radiology/CT scans and more home care. What is the point of SDS, RPFT etc if most jobs are at the hospitals? It is funny RT are experts at cardiopulmonary and yet few are in clinics, rehabilitation centers, labs etc. If APRT is recognized as an equivalence to PA or NP, PT in advanced cardiopulmonary medical science practice and there is demand for them, then I think that would interest more RTs. APRT should be able to specialize in all aspects of cardiopulmonary system.

Just talking in circles at this point. This is one of the reasons why people aren’t becoming respiratory therapist. Just like the workplace, AARC doesn’t have our backs.

This is way overdue! My question 🙋🏽‍♂️ to AARC is why did it take so long to even initiate this process? If nurses were able to accomplish this and RT & Nurses work hand in hand, then why the delay? It seem to me that the AARC wasn’t concerned with having compact licensing. This could have been done a long time ago. But obviously that would seem too much like right. SMH 🤦🏽‍♂️ This is the exact reason so many RT’s aren’t as active with the AARC, because a lot feel the AARC aren’t doing the necessary things to improve our status as Respiratory Therapist.

I'm a fellow traveler and a huge advocate for compact licensing :). In what ways can we support?

We’ve been asking for this for years. Long before covid even came about. And then in the middle of the pandemic the AARC said that’s not important, we’re going to focus on getting rid of associates degree programs instead. This is why I dropped membership.

I am a patient suffering with two incurable pain conditions and according to everything I have read I definitely qualify for it, yet I'm having a very hard time getting palliative care. If palliative care clinics do not take patients like me, who aren't dying immediately, then there really is no difference between palliative care and hospice. My conditions CAN limit lifespan, but they are rare and not much is known about them, but I have so many symptoms and 24/7 pain, my life is extremely disrupted and so are my family member's lives. How do I get help, PLEASE??

Too much money needed to spend on lobbyists to pass legislation 9:05 9:05 9:05 for a small population that would benefit. Traveler’s are making enough money to afford paying for individual state licenses.

It's all about money, that's what it comes down to.

Hospitals are allowing cnas to do our job but I'm glad you all get to enjoy seminars while we fight to feed our families

How is this new bill from Congress a major victory for Respiratory Care? How is this going to increase our pay or scope of practice? I'll answer that for you: it's not. What progress has been made on compact licensure? Is this going to be like most things the AARC talks about but never gets accomplished?

So NOW after all this time and money they've sucked from people keeping dues they decided to make a "task force" I mean c'mon people should have been trying to do this two years ago and try to mainstream might have had better luck and governor's willing and more than able. This is just to get people to shut up about it and hey here's a bone so leave us alone

Just would add that you can enter the profession with a MS degree as well. Our profession offers from AS to MS to get into the profession.

With how lucrative and popular travel/agency work is for RTs, multi-state compact licensing is a gimme. We do need consistent scope between states first, though. As is right now, it just comes across as just a cash grab on the part of the state boards.

Honestly we should of been doing this years ago. Even paramedics have this in place before us.
